The COP421 emulator is powered by +5v standby to manage time of day and soft power functions. At the PSU, it measures 5.3v. At the COP421 emu, it measures 4.7v. This is still in range of the COP402 (4.5 - 6.3v). My PSU delivers 1.8A of +5v standby.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:36 JST paulrickards Plugging in the IO board into the motherboard, the PSU doesn't automatically turn on. But this is good, because it's soft power!
However, grounding the /PWRSW line on the motherboard floppy connector does not turn on the system. Hmmm.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:36 JST paulrickards Can I use a Mac 128k/Plus mouse (DB-9) on a Lisa 2/5 (DB-9)? I'm hoping they're the same mouse inside, despite differing button sizes and labels on the bottom.
*Edit: The consensus is yes you can!

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards Wowowowow the #AppleLisaClone just passed the startup tests and is asking for a disk!!
This means my system (and especially the MMU) seems to be working! This also means the SunRem 2MB card may be faulty. Going to test it in the Lisa 2/10 later to confirm.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards I had a little trouble removing the card cage. There are small metal levers on the corners of the cards to aid in removal. One of them was sticking up too far and caught the case. Fixing that it slid out easily. There are two 512K Apple RAM cards in this machine. It has a VintageMicros sticker on the inside dated Nov 07.
Let’s pop one of the RAM cards out and see if my rig throws the error 45 again.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards Today I brought my rig over to Kennet Classic Computer Museum in Kennet Square, PA where Bill has a Lisa 2/10 that he graciously let me take apart to troubleshoot my #AppleLisaClone.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards I asked VintageMicros what kind of memory should be used in the SunRem 2MB RAM card. They sent this picture of SIMMs. The top module looks like the chips are NEC D41256L-12. The sticker says 70ns but doesn’t the -12 denote 120ns?

Mouser has the high-point contact short-tail version in stock. Almost $10/ea! O.o

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards I created this adapter board for a 27C512 EPROM to work in place of a MMI 6309 PROM. I'll think about this some more and maybe order some boards to try it. $5.50 for three at OSH Park, not bad.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:35 JST paulrickards I've been pondering another strategy for the Lisa PROMs needed for the #AppleLisaClone project. Could an (E)EPROM be used instead? With the appropriate adapter and fast enough response time, might it work? I think vintage arcade folks do this now. I've successfully used EPROMs before in a #C64 for the PLA.
I have a stash of W27C512 that are 45ns which I think is fast enough to replace a MMI 6309. There would be a lot of wasted space but who cares?
Thoughts?

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:34 JST paulrickards I ordered these 27C512 EPROM to 6309 PROM adapter boards last night so we’ll know if they work eventually.

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:33 JST paulrickards I noticed that there was an open source command line tool made for the MiniPRO TL866xx series of USB EPROM burners. It includes the ability to read bipolar PROMs (specifically the 82S135), something the provided GUI software can’t do!
First I concatenated the PROM code (256 bytes) 256 times to reach the 65536 bytes of the EEPROM (a Winbond W27C512-45Z).

paulrickards (paulrickards@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Sep-2023 03:28:32 JST paulrickards Then burned it to the W27C512 EEPROM.
Then I prototyped the board with jumpers to a breadboard and tried it to see if we can at least fool the MiniPRO into thinking the 27C512 is a 82S135 (6309 read equiv).
Happy to report that it works so I’ve at least swizzled the pins in the right order! Won’t know for sure until it’s in circuit but it’s promising.
