I don't even know if Classic is better! I'm no more exercising conscious judgment now than I would have when I would have in the past been like "ooh bright colors and attractive design," my brain has literally just replaced the old default with a new "the grey one is better" reflex.

I've seen cookie opt in dialog boxes start to move away from the "yes is in a colorful button, no is hidden in grey text with no outline," so I assume I'm not alone.

There's an Interesting arms race on between marketing "dark pattern" manipulation and the human brain.

I was getting Feedly to party like it's 2008 with RSS blogs. There was Feedly with a bright colored icon and inviting marketing text and Feedly Classic with grey icon.

Modern tech trained me to look for the uninviting grey of "we don't want you to do this because it is better for you and worse for us," so I didn't even think twice before going for Classic.

President Abraham Lincoln received a gift of a cane, but he couldn't make out the signature on the letter accompanying the gift.

So he cut out that signature and pasted it onto his thank you note to use as the salutation.

I relate so much to Lincoln's anxious brain in July 1864 looping through: "Need to finish that proclamation for 500,000 more soldiers. Sherman needs supplies. Can I pardon this deserter? How in hell am I going to send this thank you letter?"

The word man originally was gender-neutral. Wer was used for male-gendered men and Wif for female. Wif persisted as "wife" and wifman->woman. The wer was dropped in the 10th century or so and man just came to take over.

Which is fun because that wer is the same as werewolf, so there also used to be weremen

Um anyone got a convenient solution [edit: desktop or iOS] for scheduling a series of toots for someone who may have impulsively promised (at least implicitly) to make a daily post on a topic?
