It should have been on the front pages, but due to global events, it has been overlooked.
A large oil spill near the #Caribbean island of Tobago, caused by an abandoned vessel on Feb 7, 2024, triggered a massive clean-up effort as the spill affected approximately 15 kilometers of Tobago's coastline, damaging a reef and potentially contaminating the island's fish and food supply.
The ecological impact is still unknown.

Taxing great #wealth to finance the ecological and social transition. 💰
The European Citizens' Initiative, is a powerful tool for EU citizens to propose policy changes. Securing 1 million signatures prompts the Commission to review proposals.
A notable initiative is a call for a pan-European #tax on the ultra-wealthy. It would be used to combat #climatechange and #inequality.
It's a bold proposal worthy of support. I have already signed.

At last !! #Greece, a predominantly conservative country, legalises same-sex marriage and makes the lives of many of its citizens better. 👏 👏

One of the best political statements I've seen on #socialmedia in 15 years.
At its core, it provides a comprehensive critique of the notion of neo-liberalism, which boils down to the primacy of the individual.

I'd like this to happen in every city around the world.
On a referendum held in #Paris on Sunday, where 54.6% of voters supported special parking fees for heavy and polluting cars, such as #SUV s, to reduce air pollution and #climate breakdown.
The cities should take steps to reduce #airpollution and promote public and affortable #transportation
Scientists are clear we need to farm and eat less meat to help the planet and our health.
Politicians not only ignore them, they continue to subsidize the meat industry.
But #Denmark ,one of the largest pork exporters in the world, has become the first country in the world to publish a roadmap to make its food system more plant-based.

Apparently, according to #Azerbaijan 's President Ilham Aliyev, the world belongs to men.
"Azerbaijan appoints no women to 28-member #COP29 #climate committee"
What one outcome would you like to see from #COP28 🌍
George Monbiot goes right to the heart of the global climate crisis.
(video👇from BBC Question Time)
A new study led by James Hansen, a scientist who warned about climate change in the 1980s, argues that IPCC has underestimated climate sensitivity, meaning that a “dangerous” burst of heating will be unleashed due to the continued burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. It predicts that the world will reach 1.5°C of warming by the 2020s and 2°C by 2050, faster than expected.

Gulf Stream Weakening Confirmed
"We conclude with a high degree of confidence that Gulf Stream transport has indeed slowed by about 4% in the past 40 years." confirms new study.
The Golf Stream plays a crucial role in regulating the #climate by transporting warm water and #heat from the tropics to higher latitudes, affecting both local and global #weather patterns.

Greta nudged 30% of Swiss people to go green.
Almost one-third of Swiss adults made greener choices because of climate activist Greta Thunberg. A survey of more than 1,200 adults in Switzerland found that most people felt positively towards Thunberg and her Fridays for Future movement, and they were the ones most influenced by her: almost half of them reported making changes, such as taking the bus and cycling.
Orcas have sunk 3 boats in Europe and appear to be teaching others on how to do the same. But why?
Scientists believe a traumatised #orca launched the attack on boats during a "critical moment of agony," and that the behaviour is spreading among the population through social learning. 🐳
While reading the article, Frank Schätzing's terrific sci-fi novel, The Swarm, came to mind. All the freak events in the oceans started when #whales began sinking ships. 🤔
So sad to hear about #JimmyCarter.
During his administration, #environment and #energy conservation become an important part of the political agenda. It was then when the notion ‘small is beautiful’ was conveyed and later applied to technology applications.
Perhaps the only thing you need to remember is that in 1979 amid the Arab #oil embargo #JimmyCarter installed 32 solar panels on the presidential mansion.
They were taken down in 1986 during the #Reagan presidency
The #Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims all new houses in the city be built with rooftop #solar panels starting in April 2025
