I’m not a big fan of Bluesky. I don’t see the point and everything I want is already working on the Fediverse/Mastodon. But many people enjoy Bluesky. Some of those are really good and smart people. I agree with a lot of the points that @pluralistic makes in this piece.

Der Cronjob für den täglichen Post von @bundescyberjob ist jetzt deaktiviert, da der Hosting-Service, auf dem der Bot läuft, seine Arbeit einstellt.

Seit 2019 hat der Bot zufällige Stellenanzeigen im öffentlichen Dienst gepostet, in denen der String "cyber" vorkommt. Es war ein kleiner, humoriger Metakommentar.

In den fünf Jahren hat sich allerdings auch die Sprache verändert. "Cyber" ist immer noch ein seltsames Wort, aber längst nicht mehr so merwürdig wie 2019. Zeit für neuen Quatsch!

Mein Lieblingsdetail zu den massiven Protesten gegen den südkoreanischen Präsidenten gerade: Die jungen Leute versammeln sich dort in klirrender Winterkälte, aber es gibt Solidarität — wer ein schlechtes Gewissen hat, weil eine eigene Teilnahme nicht möglich ist, bestellt und bezahlt online Heißgetränke bei den Coffeeshops um die Demo herum. Dort können die Protestierenden sich den kostenlosen Kaffee abholen und sich aufwärmen.

Although comparing different political systems is problematic, let’s say that President Yoon is a Trump-like character whose controversial conservative policies resulted in a landslide victory for the opposition in the recent parliamentary elections. The opposition has been working on impeachment for a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Yoon‘s way of stopping a probable impeachment. 2/2

This could very well be a theatrical political show that‘s over in a few hours. Or something more serious. I‘m hoping for the first.

Life in Seoul is normal, I hear. No restrictions on public life so far. Only police in front of the parliament. Everyone is confused.

Martial law brings back horrible memories from military rule in South Korea 44 years ago. But since the 1990s, South Korea has transformed itself into a stable liberal democracy. A coup today would happen in a much different Korean society, with strong opposition parties and an active civil society.

Everyone wants to get their news fix. Community discussion boards at Korean tech giant Naver (“Naver Cafe”) experience downtime because of the extreme usage; same with the leading Internet news service at the other tech giant Daum. Instant messaging through Korea’s ubiquitous KakaoTalk seems to hold up during the data tsunami.

The parliament (where the opposition to President Yoon has the overwhelming majority) has voted to veto the declaration of martial law.

I’m calling it. Yoon won’t be acting president by the end of this week. I would like to win this bet with myself, because the alternative isn’t so great.
