The #Fediverse and #Mastodon are experiencing some recent growing pains. There is a risk that developments could lead to the network fracturing into walled gardens of individual communities that are isolated from each other. There are also people who want to assert centralized control over the network. These dangers are described and a bold solution is proposed here:
