Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 17-May-2024 01:19:50 JST Wes Kennedy @mattly it’s disgusting. I’m turning the car in and we’re going back to sharing one car. I’ll likely get an E-Bike to supplement. There’s no reason to own two vehicles when I work from home and my wife doesn’t work.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 17-May-2024 01:15:13 JST Wes Kennedy We have a leased model Y from 2021. Getting ready to turn it in. I broke down the total cost of ownership for three years, with us 99% charging it at home. It looks something like this:
3-year breakdown
Lease: $22,824 (634/mo)
Insurance: $3138 (1061/yr)
Electricity (12k mi/yr, $0.16/kWh after distribution): $2052 (100% Wind)
Registration (Ohio): $708
Tires: $1500 (estimating 30k replacement life - stock lasted 14k -

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 17-May-2024 01:15:12 JST Wes Kennedy All in all, $30222 to drive roughly 36k miles. But we went over the lease by a lot, so we will likely owe another $4k in turn in fees. Cars are stupid.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 03-May-2024 01:34:14 JST Wes Kennedy Whoever designed and built the OneDrive sync for Mac should have to listen to Nickelback on repeat on 11 for the rest of their lives.
I've never had more issues with multi-machine state management of files. Syncthing, Dropbox, Box, and so many others i've tried just work. OneDrive? Nope. It's like everyone at Microsoft never uses their own tools.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jan-2024 09:32:27 JST Wes Kennedy Just a reminder that if you saw someone shoplifting food, no you didn't.
Also, a giant FUCK YOU to Kroger who makes their customers stand there at the self-checkout aisle watching the employee review suspected shoplifting footage and compare to the receipt on-screen --> in direct view of the customer at question and wide open for all else to see. How fucking humiliating.
I used to work for NVIDIA, I can quickly estimate how much this shit costs. Surely, it costs more than the loss.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jan-2024 09:32:26 JST Wes Kennedy There's no possible way that Kroger's loss can account for probably a quarter million dollars in equipment per store. (There are hundreds of cameras in these stores - that's a lot of footage to comb through live).
Even if it was break even, who the fuck cares? And also, even if it was a net positive on the bottom line, is it worth dehumanizing people who are just trying to feed their families? (it's not). You're not fucking Apple, you're Kroger.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 01:11:31 JST Wes Kennedy Just paid myself for the first time under my LLC. That was weird.
Working with my accountants we structured things in an interesting (and smart, kudos to them) way. I pull about half of my estimated comp as a W2, so I am paying into Social Security ensuring that I will be entitled to it in the future. The rest I take as Distributions from the LLC (lower taxes). This month, I won't take distributions, because the biz needs to build a cash cushion - even though I may personally need it.

Wes Kennedy (wesdottoday@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 01:11:30 JST Wes Kennedy When I say I "Paid Myself", I mean, I logged into ADP and processed payroll, which then goes to my accountant, who approves it and orchestrates the taxes, social security, and workers comp stuff.
It's weird choosing how much to pay yourself, because as much as I'd love to pay myself every penny in the biz bank account, I still need to be responsible and plan for biz expenses and cover my own "PTO". It's all kind of a mind-fuck honestly.
