It seems super fucked up to me that starting at the age of like 10, I had debilitating period cramps, like to the point of vomiting and sometimes being unable to walk, and everyone was just like “oh yeah, that’s how it is. Take ibuprofen or something.” And like, eventually I got on continuous birth control, which completely solved the problem with no noticeable side effects, but I had to ask for it from my doctor. Nobody suggested it. I spent like 10+ years disabled by pain 15-20% of the time.

Ask yourself why the Nazis are your go-to comparison. Is it because the crimes are actually particularly similar? Or is it because you feel that that comparison is particularly impactful, shocking, and hurtful?

If you must compare atrocities, there are many that this is more comparable, because as horrible as it is, Israel isn't doing what Nazi Germany did. The Nazis didn't just kill civilians, they systematically imprisoned, tortured, and murdered people in a way that hadn't been done before and hasn't been done since.

Listen: what Israel is doing in Gaza is unspeakably horrible. But all other considerations aside, comparing Israel to Nazi Germany is not going to convince anyone who doesn't already agree with you, least of all Jewish people. It is not rhetorically useful. It actively pushes people away.

There are so many things you can say about Gaza that are both more accurate and more convincing. There's the fact that 39,000 people have been killed. There's the fact that nearly half of Gaza's population is made up of children. There are thousands of horrible personal stories of tragedy and death. It doesn't have to be the Holocaust to be important, or horrific, or worth standing against.

As a Jewish American, I am against US military support of Israel. I've written to my representatives about it. I've donated money to charities giving aid to Gaza. And when I see people comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, it doesn't make me regret that, nor does it change my position. I'm not that easily shaken. But it does make me feel less safe among gentiles who share my views.

I'm so sick of people on the left saying Jews who talk about antisemitism are "making Gaza about [us]" when we're literally *not even talking about Gaza*, we're talking about people where we live.

Fuck the New York Times.

So some people checked out the voting records, and it turns out that the guy who wrote the "Why I Don't Vote. And Why Maybe You Shouldn't Either" article voted in 2020 and 2022. So, you know, not only is he trying to destroy the US, he's also a fucking liar.

I feel like "guy who's generally really smart but way too easily seduced by libertarian ideas" is a whole genre of guy.

Not gonna lie, that stings.

It seems to me like a lot of leftists never really believed it. They saw Nazis as a convenient rhetorical device to use to condemn their political opponents, not as people who do real harm to marginalised people, particularly Jews.

Listen: I'm not sure what to do about that. Protests aren't always well organised, and even when they are, it's not easy to keep people out. But I don't think I'm alone among Jews in saying that I feel kind of betrayed. The whole "table with eleven Nazis" idea has been replaced with "Well, we can't be responsible for everyone."
