>The Brontë family can be traced to the Irish clan Ó Pronntaigh, which literally means "descendant of Pronntach". They were a family of hereditary scribes and literary men in Fermanagh. The version Ó Proinntigh, which was first given by Patrick Woulfe in his Sloinnte Gaedheal is Gall (transl. Surnames of the Gael and the Foreigner)[2] and reproduced without question by Edward MacLysaght, cannot be accepted as correct, as there were a number of well-known scribes with this name writing in Irish in the 17th and 18th centuries and all of them used the spelling Ó Pronntaigh. The name is derived from the word pronntach or bronntach,[3] which is related to the word bronnadh, meaning "giving" or "bestowal" (pronn is given as an Ulster version of bronn in O'Reilly's Irish English Dictionary.)[4] Patrick Woulfe, the author of Sloinnte Gaedheal is Gall, suggested that it was derived from proinnteach (the refectory of a monastery).[2] Ó Pronntaigh was earlier anglicised as Prunty and sometimes Brunty.
>At some point, Patrick Brontë (born Brunty), the sisters' father, decided on the alternative spelling with the diaeresis over the terminal ⟨e⟩ to indicate that the name has two syllables. Multiple theories exist to account for the change as well, including that he may have wished to hide his humble origins.[5] As a man of letters, he would have been familiar with classical Greek and may have chosen the name after the Greek βροντή (transl. thunder). One view, which biographer C. K. Shorter proposed in 1896, is that he adapted his name to associate himself with Admiral Horatio Nelson, who was also Duke of Bronte.[6] One might also find evidence for this theory in Patrick Brontë's desire to associate himself with the Duke of Wellington in his form of dress.

@augustus hopefully the woke period will be very short and end up as a sort of historical novelty, like phrenology, and woke memorabilia will be seen as rare collectible items

@lain I heard that all the live-action remakes are an attempt to retain copyright on their old material, but that could easily be BS since I don't know much about copyright law

I think it's pretty clear what needs to be done at this point. I'll travel to Central Asia, specifically the Tarim Basin, and after some intensive studies I'll establish a neo-Tocharian civilization with the help of a few friends. It will probably be at least half Mongolian, as we could use their strength and good looks, plus other benefits besides that--like they're probably experts at surviving such harsh climatic conditions. Maybe Tocharia will stand a chance this time around.

@augustus the Republican party developed around the time before the Civil War and was generally pro-northern, which is why Lincoln was a republican, while the Democratic party came from an older, initially populist/rural party during Andrew Jackson's time (originally the Democratic-Republicans iirc)
after the war, the Republicans became the party of big business and the north, while the Democrats remained southern and a little friendlier to workers, farmers, and urban immigrants (due to political machines that basically used immigrants as voting fodder) which is ultimately how FDR was able to use its voter base to turn it into a sort of democratic socialist party
during the early Cold War things got confusing (at least to me); I think the Republicans were generally more anti-communist, hence guys like McCarthy
then Nixon's campaign guys were able to turn the Republican party into a sort of advocate for the South, because the Democrats had shifted away from the South during the mid century, and Reagan continued that by e.g. focusing on moral issues and courting Evangelical Christians, and you probably know the more recent history thereafter
(to other red-blooded Americans: feel free to correct me if you find any inaccuracies)

it seems like a lot of leftists desperately want people to know that they're leftists, so the best way to annoy them is to feign ignorance and call them liberals
