Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:27 JST Trammell Hudson The SAML22 is similar to the SAMD21 that is already supported, so other than some complexities with the timer and clock trees, we already have the python REPL on the USB port. #CircuitPythonDay2024

Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:21 JST Trammell Hudson Power consumption for the Micropython watch is quite a bit higher than the C firmware, likely due to using machine.lightsleep() instead of a deeper sleep mode and not bringing the clocks all the way down. On a 100mAh CR2016, 0.6mA is only 150 hours of runtime.

Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:20 JST Trammell Hudson With better sleeping (and better measurement using the TI launchpad's energytrace tool), Micropython is now sleeping at less than 100uA on the SAML22. Still 10x what it should be.

Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:18 JST Trammell Hudson by turning of TCC0 and the SysTick interrupt during sleep, the micropython power usage has gone way down. it still consumes significantly more when running than the C firmware, however.

Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:17 JST Trammell Hudson measuring the amperage with a Nordic PPK2, it is clear that the micropython firmware is going to drain the SensorWatch battery far too quickly. this is for a barely minimal watch face that just gets the time and updates the display.

Trammell Hudson (th@social.v.st)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 21:57:15 JST Trammell Hudson one easy optimization is to do less work -- if the low-second is not zero, then only one digit needs to be updated. if the second tens needs to be updated, that's only one more. and then every minute redraw the whole screen.
