A thought crossed my mind: Apple said no one would buy iPhones if they were made in the USA because they'd be too expensive. Hmm. But what if that was just how it was -- the only option? What if they cost 3x what they do now? People would have to get them still because we're all dependent, even if they took on payment plans. Aaaaaand, wouldn't we demand they're supported longer so we buy them less often? Could it actually improve #ewaste?
A similar concept is an expensive 100% wool shirt I have. The idea is you don't wash them as often and you wear it more, yet it lasts longer than other shirts, so you don't have to own very many. I've only been rotating between two shirts for a few months now. More expensive per shirt, but your wardrobe can be really little, and you will waste less and avoid microplastics in the water system.
It feels slightly similar to my e-waste thoughts... evidently it's where my brain is at right now.
