The concept of Mastodon is great. Sure there are a lot of core issues that haven't been solved yet. But a decentralized social network with an open API is a dream for us...as long as there's a big enough user base for us to make a living. After spending some time on Mastodon again, we decided that we couldn't just sit around to see what happens at Twitter. We decided to port Tweetbot over, but something amazing happened in that process. (3 of 6)

Building an app for an open and decentralized social platform felt so refreshing. Inspirational! I haven't been so excited designing something in a long time. With Tweetbot, we were always fighting with the API limitations while knowing in the back of our minds that someday the API could be taken away. I didn't realize it then, but that killed a lot of our excitement and enthusiasm. With @ivory, we are just ecstatic every single day. It's just been a pure joy to make software again. (4 of 6)

Final results. I just could not fix the ears. ? We shared a super high res version to use as a desktop background over at @ivory. ?

Some more 3d progress. Still unsure if I like it or not. One of those things where I have to see it through to the end and either feel mediocre about it or hate it. ? I’m already bad at modeling in 3d, but modeling something organic just adds a whole other level of difficulty for me. There’s only one way to get better.

I’ve made about 70 new icons in the past 3 days. This will be a nice change of pace…or I’ll rage quit in frustration because my modeling skills are not up to the task. Only time will tell.

Came out better than I expected. But now I wish the ears were more squared off and it’s going to be a bit of a pain to fix since I’ve already subdivided this far. ? I did make copies of the model at various states so I guess I can attempt to rebuild the ears and reconnect after.

Okay a quick render. I guess it has potential. Just need to get the details right.
