Had to run some errands this morning & on our way home we passed this magnificent pink & white “raspberry swirl” dogwood. It inspired such a sudden outburst of exuberance from me that my husband (safely) executed a near bat-turn so I could hop out & get these photos. 😍

“There [are] bills to mandate the Ten Commandments…in every classroom,…Christian chaplains…to replace counselors & therapists, the Bible…as part of the social studies curriculum…
…all over 🇺🇸, coalitions of progressive & moderate conservative parents [are]…forming their own [PACs], running their own…candidates.

'They Came for the Schools' details how GOP targeted race and identity in classrooms
In 2021, an affluent, suburban school district in Texas gained national attention when parents and local conservative activists falsely accused the district of indoctrinating students with critical race theory. Mike Hixenbaugh's "They Came for the Schools" details how it became a blueprint for Republicans across the country and exposes their ambitions. Laura Barrón-López reports.

@rbreich When I saw the headline this morning, I thought “good” — but it also made me think of this #quote …

one accepts a smaller as a favour.”

“‘The guilty verdict was…a victory for our democratic processes, but [that] we [have] to have…all [these Trump] trials means we’ve gotten into a bad place as a nation & our institutions have been compromised.’
I thought of [SCOTUS]…&…why I wrote Strongmen, a study of what happens to societies & their institutions when deeply damaged & amoral individuals get to power, supported by myriad enablers & cheered by crowds living in alternate realities created by years of lying.”

May all victims of war and violence rest in peace,
and may we all learn at long last to live in peace.

“You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home & pray you'll never know
The hell where youth & laughter go.”
    ~ Siegfried Sassoon

@TheRealKat What a wonderful, thoughtful post. In a world that often seems increasingly desensitized, it’s heartening to see people intentionally become more sensitized & responsive. I especially ❤️ this observation:

“If I am choosing consciously & compassionately when selecting a product, I am more likely to keep that same open mind the next time I stumble across an issue I don’t know enough about.”

We found that to be very true, & it immediately reminded me of this (sadly unattributed) quote:

@MediaActivist Guess we’ll have to call milkweed “milkalternativeweed,” by your colleague’s, um, logic.🙄

I think most people are unaware of the very long, global history of plant milks…

      History of Plant Milks
There’s a long history of plant milks and other plant drinks having been made by people over millennia. There’s certainly nothing new or unusual about us consuming them.

The massive domestic and international damage that a default on U.S. debt would bring might lead some to think that the GOP can't possibly be so vindictive or irresponsible. That would underestimate the Republican party's appetite for chaos and destruction. https://open.substack.com/pub/lucid/p/republicans-have-crashed-a-national?r=1k4nht&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
