Microplastics are released from plastic when exposed to heat, a finding supported by multiple studies. This includes microplastics leaching from tea bags into hot tea, plastic containers releasing nanoplastics when microwaved, and higher temperatures during laundry increasing microplastic release from synthetic clothing. While the health effects of microplastics are still being studied, minimizing heat exposure to plastic is a simple way to reduce exposure.
