@tb the problem is going to have guns whether we like it or not. Convince the cops and military to give up their guns and i will willingly give up mine. Until then, "an unarmed people are slaves or are subject to slavery at any given moment"

@stairjoke @tb or subject to slavery at any given moment. Yes. Except for the Swiss and everyone who shares a border with Russia apparently.

@stairjoke @tb no, governments are for maintaining the status quo and privileges, things you must benefit from if your cool with racist police being armed but not minorities.

Overview of gun laws by nation
Gun laws and policies, collectively referred to as firearms regulation or gun control, regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, and use of small arms by civilians. Laws of some countries may afford civilians a right to keep and bear arms, and have more liberal gun laws than neighboring jurisdictions. Countries that regulate access to firearms will typically restrict access to certain categories of firearms and then restrict the categories of persons who may be granted a license for access to such firearms. There may be separate licenses for hunting, sport shooting (a.k.a. target shooting), self-defense, collecting, and concealed carry, with different sets of requirements, permissions, and responsibilities. Gun laws are often enacted with the intention of reducing the use of small arms in criminal activity, specifying weapons perceived as being capable of inflicting the greatest damage and those most easily concealed, such as handguns and other short-barreled weapons. Persons restricted from legal access to firearms may include those below a certain age or having a criminal record. Firearm licenses...

@stairjoke @tb the US is a paradox because many of the people that most urgently need to prepare to defend themselves and their communities from racists and neo-nazis are the ones who want gun control most. Its well known that the vast majority of mass shootings are caused by the right.
Meanwhile Cherán, Mexico, is now one of the safest areas in the country. 13 years ago it was one of the most dangerous thanks to Narco and military violence. What happened 13 years ago? The people armed themselves and kicked out the police, politicians and narcos from their community. Their quality of life has also gone up considerably, not just because of the lack of violence but its amazing the services and infrastructure that can be funded when the government isn't stealing the majority of the peoples resources.
What the people of Cheran did can be accomplished by any community in the world given enough will and organization.
