@mapachin Iโve spoken out in support of the protestors many times, in spite of the antisemitic outliers in the mix. I have been a critic of Israel from the left for a long, long time.
My post is just a bleat of frustration about seeing antisemitism from all sides, and itโs valid. Itโs happening. If youโre not perpetuating it, then Iโm not talking to you.
If you read this as a leftie and feel defensive, I'm only asking you to not be antisemitic when you criticize Israel. That's it. You can do it. I know you can. If I can do it as a Jewish leftie, you can fucking handle it. And if you can't, that's a you problem, and I don't need to hear about it. Thanks.
Really fucking annoying that the far right explains whatโs happening in Israel as Jews controlling Biden and the far left explains it as Biden being controlled by Jews. Itโs all just antisemitism.
And neither side will acknowledge reality: Bibi is an insane war criminal. Israel is not an American colony, itโs a nation that Biden has no control of. Itโs completely arrogant and wrong to think either man can control what the other does, or that the Jewish people have any say over any of it.
Years ago, I went to Poland to see where the Powazeks came from. Dad and I took a tour of one of the camps where our family was killed. The tour guide asked us if we were Polish or Jewish. "Both," I said. "You can't be both," he said flatly. This was in the early 2000s.
This is how the Poles could kill us. Help the nazis send us to camps. Take our homes. We weren't part of "us."
Today: Republican Ron Johnson reminds us that Jews in America are also not "us."
Quite the mind fuck being an American Jew and descendant of Holocaust survivors right now, as nazis and republicans call Jewish protesters โantisemitic.โ I donโt blame anyone for being confused by it all. Just know that your Jewish friends have been angry about it for a long time. And remember that anyone claiming to speak for all Jews probably isnโt.
We have long watched as the worst people use us as an excuse to enact their power fantasies. Please donโt believe them when they do.
@evan I get that, but I donโt care about making life easier for software developers. I think software developersโ job is to make things people want to use. Things that solve ordinary peopleโs problems, not software developer problems.
My bias here is that Iโve seen how horrible it can be for people who felt safe in a community when they get outed in another context. I just think that any shared identity systems need to be designed to protect from those kind of experiences from the outset.
@evan I fully disagree! I have people in each of those places that were unique to those places! Why should someone who follows my goat pics on a photo site want to follow my political posts on a text site? Why should we assume they would? These are my needs, for my community, and they have nothing to do with the needs of the companies.
In fact, the companies would love nothing more than to shovel in content and connections from other places.
I respect you so much but youโve got this backwards.
@evan See, this is why I suspect the people working on this arenโt talking to enough real people.
I donโt think you can say that maintaining different social graphs is not good for personal relationships or communities. In my experience, itโs not only good, itโs essential.
I think itโs part of the very definition of community to choose your identity and relationships in each context.
I used to make websites. I wrote โDesign for Community.โ I designed the original Blogger. I created JPG Magazine, Fray, Kvetch, Cute-Fight, and more. Now I grow flowers and turn them into CBD products for https://milkbarn.farm. I take care of 30-something chickens, 13 goats, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and my wife and myself in Boring, Oregon. Nazis, TERFs, and Republicans can fuck off. Do not explain capitalism to me.He/him.#fedi22 #community #goats #communitydesign #farmlife #design
