I'm seeing people posting scripts for automated recovery.. Scripts don't work if the machine won't boot (it causes instant BSOD) -- you still need to manually boot the system in safe mode, get through BitLocker recovery (needs per system key), then execute anything.

Crowdstrike are huge, at a global scale that's going to take.. some time.

Well...they played Duel of the Fates just before they quoted me about SpaceX being awful on my local CBC radio station! Wowee, that was awesome. I think it's time for me to get off the computer and snuggle goats for a while.

    So...now what?

After all that, I am really not sure if what just happened was 100% legal.

I'm not sure what Canadians are supposed to do if they find space junk.

I have a nice map of where several pieces were found (along about 50km of the projected ground track), and I'm sure more pieces will be found in the coming months/years. What are people supposed to do with them? (The SpaceX dudes did not answer that question.)

So, I'm sure this story's far from over.

Y'know how there's a pattern of behavior where someone says something is bad about the tech industry or community or OSS software or something, and then every single nerd within a 50 square mile radius says *WELL ACKTUALLY*??

I just realized that if, like, even 10% of them just... Sat down and spent some energy fixing the problem instead of insulting someone for experiencing it, we would've solved all those issues by now

The FCC comment period is still open for direct-to-cell gigantic satellites. And people who pay attention to the FCC are noticing that loads of private individuals are submitting comments on this!

A sincere thank you to everyone who's already submitted, and there's still 1 week left to submit your own comments if you have energy for it

Will it make a difference? No one really knows. The FCC is a black box. But this is pretty much the only way to tell them what you think, so worth a try!

A group of concerned astronomers, artists, and policy experts have come together and formed Kessler Rebellion. Our goal is to educate the public about what's happening in orbit and advocate for regulatory changes that will avoid Kessler Syndrome, which would destroy our ability to use satellites in Low Earth Orbit for decades to centuries.

Great Scott there's a fourth Brent Bozell!?

Why does anybody take the right's allegations about paid activists seriously when anyone on the right who is not a billionaire is on a billionaire's payroll? The Brents being obvious cases in point, along with at least half of the Supreme Court.

#WordPress really didn't do anyone any favours by making EVERYTHING a post and stuffing everything into the Posts table.

I don't know how they talked themselves into the idea that Media uploads are 'posts' but this is really bad architecture.

(Coming from someone trying to do some fancy migrating of media.)

One of the absolutely wild, to me, things is learning that cloud providers have fans… who absolutely refuse to believe the cloud provider could do something wrong.

Who the fuck stans a cloud provider? Tech nerds, apparently.

And apparently it made national news(?!), because someone I'm on a committee with in Ontario said she saw me. I think it's time to go to bed (and hope for no more reentries...)

Interview done. I emailed Jonathan McDowell @planet4589 to ask if he had info on a possible reentry, and he immediately found it, and even had the ground track already calculated! Thank you for this meticulous tracking, Jonathan! (Because the satellite companies sure as shit aren't sharing this info!)

It was a Dragon Trunk from the Axios 3 mission, reentered on Feb 26. The reporter is going to send me contact info for the farmer who found it, so at least I can tell him what it is.

I just want to point out that while I'm not a trained law enforcement officer, I've managed to successfully use a flashlight numerous times without shooting at anything. Mostly this is because I use special flashlights that don't have guns attached.
