@whitequark I know the feeling. Immich is a culprit of that. For that, I spin up a bhyve vm with a Debian in it and just submitted to the docker compose BS.
Internally I loathe it. If you can’t provide proper “from source” build instructions for your project you are doomed in my view.
@whitequark how about jails or zones as an alternative?
@hellomiakoda Genuine question as a Game Pass user. What have I missed? If there’s even a remotely good reason I am happy to abandon ship but Onam genuinely confounded about what is going on.
A reason to love #FreeBSD : I am the kind of person that runs a system for a while and gets pissed off that it's not "clean" after a few stray package installs. Jails solve that hands down. Containers always felt "tacked on" and a band aid. Jails honestly feel "this is how it was supposed to be".
Kinda wish #OpenBSD had an alternative to it though. On the networking side It just wins, though opinionated (but for good reasons and cause).
I am just a happy camper in Unix land again.
