The legality of "all assets, no liabilities" aside, why is refunding customers not on the table?

The company acquiring screwed up big time. I get that a $30-$40 lifetime subscription is ponzi-scheme levels of mismanagement.

But, if lifetime subscriptions are unsustainable and they were sold that cheap, just refund the customers the full amount they paid.

Google for all the things they've done wrong, when they shut down Stadia and refunded all purchases, they got that right.

imo sh*tposts are of real culture value on the internet. Art is in the eye is the beholder, but I think it's totally fair for servers to decide where they draw the line on whether they want those kinds of posts.

This conversation is making me think of how the US has federal laws vs state laws.

✅ With genuine community engagement, absolutely okay. Many small artists rely on Mastodon to pay rent.
⚠️ Bot cross-posting without any genuine community engagement should be questioned.
❌ Spamming - whether that's post spam, follow spam, or hashtag spam should be forbidden.
