The friction that maintained contribution quality for 30+ years has been removed. We need intentional replacement, not nostalgia.

This is not about Al
It's about context, intent, and relationship. The projects getting this right aren't banning tools.
They're redesigning the social contract.

We don't need more code
Wo need more care
Layers 3, 4, and 5 of the contribution stack, context, intent, relationship are human layers. They cannot be automated. Only cultivated.

Following up on my success with the electronics recycling, I now aspire to do some minor but unpleasant administrative tasks. ADHD peeps, what say you to some virtual body doubling?

My main motivation at this point is that the tasks will be over and I can stop feeling apprehensive when I am reminded of them. Also I took the high dose of meds today.

I'm now running into what I think of as "ghost" open source projects due to genAI.

You'll search for a project that does X, find a public repo for a project that says it does X, it has a beautifully formatted README and well-organized code, but when you install it, it doesn't work.

Then you find the note: "Written with the help of AI, never tested, please send me spare hardware so I can test it."

Clarification: this is for things that an operating system can be configured to do in the default installation, not what you can do with network architecture or intermediate routers - though I will happily listen to your thoughts there!

Hey Fedi! What's a short list of best practices for writing or configuring software to:

1. Not be a source of a DDoS attack
2. Be more resilient to a DDoS attack

I know basics (e.g. disable recursive DNS resolution, use as few resources as possible on incoming connections till verified as legit) but I would like a complete list and, boy howdy, all the search results are someone providing a DDoS protection service.

This is for the CRA OS standard, funded by EFTA and the EC
