Hacked together some passable seat cushions for the new conservatory bench seating which the carpenter dropped off yesterday. They’re not going to win any awards but they’re comfortable to sit on and don’t look awful. Also I sliced my thumb in the process so that’s good 👍🏻
Starting an unexpected week off work with a trip out to Exmouth via the newly reopened Starcross ferry for lunch and a wander with this absolute delight of a guy. #devon
@tokyo_0 the unagi was from https://waso.tokyo who do next day delivery across the UK so that’s my go to for meat and fish, it probably costs 10x what the place down the road from you cost but Japanese food is such a warm nostalgic hug for me that it’s always worth it.
I also recently splurged on a proper rice cooker for the first time so I’m well on my way to eating a fully Japanese diet at this point. I should obviously just move back to Japan.
Also it’s a bank holiday which officially means you’re meant to have booze during normal working hours so I have a cassis-orenji which is giving me flashbacks to university pre-game drinking in Fukuoka.
The al fresco dream is alive! This is the first time it’s been sunny and warm enough to open the doors since the last bit of painting was done and it’s lovely. I suspect this may become a regular spot to work from come the summer.
In a move generously described as ‘optimistic’ I am waiting for the night riviera sleeper train to London so I can be at the office good and early tomorrow. Did I book a cabin? I am not entirely sure. Will I get any sleep at all? Also unclear.
@tokyo_0 it seems mostly to be using GPS, mapping data and the accelerometer to gather signals, it’s not particularly sophisticated but then I doubt even the insurer-provided devices do much more than this kind of thing.
Because I’m a sucker for positive reinforcement who people wrongly think of as being supremely self-confident I am always looking for validation that I am ‘good’.
Since getting my driving license I’ve been using an app which does the same stuff as insurer telemetrics devices do but just using your phone as its data source. Today I reached enough miles to have unlocked my driver score and I’m feeling very pleased with myself for my 988/ Pro Driver score 😂
Maybe they could just go the whole hog and save £1.3bln by moving to a zero day per week service.
It’s almost like the postal service should be a public utility whose priority is delivering mail to people rather than a private enterprise delivering dividends to shareholders.
Look, I have tried - I have blasted light into my retinas for eight hours a day since November, I have necked vitamin D, I have spent literal thousands of pounds to make the house warm and cozy and have drank my way through the festive season but I have reached this late January with the same conclusion as I have reached every late January spent in England - I do not belong up here, I am not cut out for days this short and this damp, and eventually English winters will be the soggy death of me.
