In June 1943 he was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

15 September 1904 | A Frenchman, Maurice Foubert, was born in Gisors. A radiotechnician.

13 September 1933 | A Belgian Jewish girl, Esther Eveline Werkendam, was born in Borgerhout. She lived in Amsterdam.

At the end of July or beginning of August 1942, she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

9 September 1893 | A Hungarian Jewish woman, Matild Deutsch, was born in Parajd.

In June 1944 she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

8 September 1901 | A Hungarian Jewish woman, Gabriella Kundler, was born in Budapest.

In June 1944 she was deported to Auschwitz. She did not survive.

8 September 1909 | Pole Józef Noji was born in Pęcków. An Olympian, multiple champion of Poland in the 5000, 10000 & cross country running but also a carpenter & tram driver.

7 September 1911 | Norwegian Jew, Elias Gorvitz, was born in Kristiania (now Oslo). A plumber.

In Auschwitz from 1 December 1942. He was held in the Golleschau sub-camp, from where, as a sick prisoner, he was transferred to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where he perished.

31 August 1926 | A Polish Jew, Dawid Wiśnia, was born in Sochaczew.

Deported to #Auschwitz in December 1942 from the ghetto in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki

He escaped from a transport to Dachau.
He joined the US Army & later emigrated to the US. He became a cantor.
He passed away in 2021.

28 August 1911 | A Dutch Jewish woman, Klaartje Henrietta Ziekenoppasser-Dormits, was born in Saint Paul in the USA.

Registered in #Auschwitz.
She perished on 28 February 1943 as a result of complications after sterilization experiments conducted by Carl Clauberg.

11,964 Soviet prisoners of war were registered in Auschwitz, and there was an estimated 3,000 soldiers brought to the camp and killed without being registered.

The estimated number of Soviet POWs killed in Auschwitz exceeded 14,000.

11 August 1931 | A Polish Jewish girl, Lea Schnitzer, was born in Mysłowice.

In February 1943 she was deported to Auschwitz from the ghetto in Chrzanów. She was murdered in a gas chamber.

10 August 1889 | Polish woman Zofia Kossak-Szczucka was born. A writer, co-founder of Żegota Council;

Arrested on 27 Sep 1943. Imprisoned in #Auschwitz 9 days later (64491). In May 1944 she was sentenced to death in Warsaw. Released thanks to Polish underground.

She died in 1968.

At least 23,000 Roma and Sinti people were deported by the Nazi German regime to Auschwitz. Over 90 percent of them were murdered.

In September 1943 he was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

25 July 1907 | Italian Jewish woman, Elsa Colombo, was born in Asti.

She was deported to Auschwitz from Milan on 30 January 1944. She did not survive.

25 July 1908 | Bronisław Czech was born. An eminent Polish #skier, 24-time Polish champion, 3-time Olympian, mountain-climber & rescuer, glider pilot.

18 July 1930 | An Italian Jew, Sami Modiano, was born on Rhodes Island (then part of Italy).

He was liberated on 27 January 1945.

Today he turns 94.

17 July 1932 | Jewish boy, Maximilian Ullmann, was born in Stuttgart. Son of an Austrian Jewish composer Viktor Ullmann.

He was deported to #Auschwitz from Theresienstadt ghetto on 23 October 1944. He was murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.
