After which a cloud of #ICE officers descended on him & the Congressional delegation he was with, arresting & jailing him while pushing around & roughly treating the members of Congress with him, incl 80yo Bonnie Watson Coleman.

They were NOT there to protest.

The problem with this story starts w/its very 1st sentence: the mayor of Newark was NOT participating in a protest at the ICE faculty.

He was there exercising his warrant as mayor along w/ members of Congress who likewise were exercising their oversight duty & authority to investigate how the #ICE facility, which they claimed was illegal, was being run. The mayor, who's Black & a candidate for #NJgov, was allowed to enter the gate, take a few steps inside, then was told he
