@BeAware Basically you would get access to all posts like in Twitter and Bluesky (via searches or your various timelines) vs the somewhat fragmented access to posts in Mastodon. Sorry if I'm not explaining this well. I'm basically talking about discoverability.

@BeAware No worries, I always appreciate positive interactions on Mastodon. This has been so much better than the Twitter days.

Though on a debatable question: would you prefer a single image of all posts visible to each user or the current "federated" view?

@BeAware We're talking about different things. See my original post.

I'm curious about the scholar.social instance. It appears their local timeline isn't open to the public? Am I getting this wrong?

@BeAware You can't like or boost a post without switching to its instance.

@BeAware Perhaps discoverability. Since #ActivityPub is not a single image of all posts, we need a better way to find posts we're interested in. Also, there should be less friction in engaging with another server; currently, you need to switch to that instance before you can interact with a post.

@elipariser I think this post is quite telling, so you need massive financial backing in order to set up a relay for a 2nd Bluesky instance. With great money comes great incentives to do bad things. The point here is, why should a user potentially go through the same busted experience they had with Twitter on a potentially busted 2nd Bluesky instance? With #ActivityPub, you can simply find another instance, #Mastodon doesn't disappear when one instance goes busted.

@gyptazy @grunfink I'm curious how it scales with the number of instances.

Recently I noticed there is a #Mastodon setting/feature where one can choose hashtags to feature on their profile. Not every Mastodon user interface shows the hashtags though. But for those that do use them, I find it's a great way of quickly getting to know a user by viewing their posts by hashtag topic.

Anyone else using this feature? It's making me want to use hashtags in all my posts from here on out.
