@shauny i get the milk and meat part, but shearing a sheep is literally just giving them a haircut with clippers just like the ones your barber uses.
If a sheep’s wool isn’t sheared, it mats up and makes it harder for them to move. It also gets a lot heavier and weighs the sheep down.

Sheep-shearing and wool are not animal cruelty. This has been a PSA from a fiberarts person.

@shauny But the fact remains, that they now DO grow wool endlessly, and to refuse to do anything about that, when we humans bred them like that, is cruel.

We cannot just “leave modern sheep alone.” We cannot undo the genetic selection that led to the endless growing of wool.

Animal welfare requires that we take care of the animals that we made dependent upon us via domestication.

@shauny There aren’t any unmodified sheep anymore. You are essentially advocating for the total extinction of:

Sheep, dogs, cats, chickens, yaks, cattle, horses, pigs, donkeys, goats, hamsters, and pigeons/doves.

All because they are domesticated and thus dependent on humans.

I consider that far more cruel than treating them humanely and protecting them.
