    There was an unfortunate error while changing the kernel.org primary/secondary mirroring infrastructure, which resulted in the /pub tree suddenly becoming empty. No data was lost, just public mirror copies. Everything is now being restored, but deletes are fast and restores are slow, so thank you for your patience!

    We launched soda bottle rockets on Monday, May 4th, with the beavers, which was a total blast (oblig. dad joke). Now I can give everyone a little memento to remember it by.

    Montreal is about to be hit by a bad ice storm -- 2-3 cm of ice on everything forecasted. I hope they got it wrong, but if not, I may lose power for a few days.

    May be time to invest into an ecoflow home battery and a vehicle that can do v2h.

    mirrors.kernel.org is down because it threw 2 disks in a RAID-6 array and then ground itself to a halt. I'm trying to resuscitate it. Please use mirrors.edge.kernel.org (it's pointing at our only remaining server that is now up, in Amsterdam).

    We need more redundancy for these systems. After exiting Equinix, we are reduced to just 2 nodes (and hence, we're now down to 1 until I rebuild the RAID array on the one that's currently offline).

    If you can donate us a server with at least 70TB of space and lots of bandwidth, I'd like to hear from you, but it has to come with hosting, as we don't have any physical datacentres any more and must rely on the kindness of strangers to host them.

    The Google alert I have for "kernel.org" in the news is becoming less and less useful as the web is now knee-deep in slop articles regurgitated for clicks.

    However, I was amused by the illustration on this one. Sure, this is that social.kernel.org looks like. A whole stack of blades in a half-rack. Not, you know, something as banal as a t3.large.

    Also, you know, that's exactly how you arrange racks in your datacentre. Just stick a random half-rack in the middle of the floor, blowing exhaust down your cold aisle.

    I won't lie, some of my infrastructure decisions are driven by the consideration that by 2030 large parts of the world will be in a hot war, with nation states specifically aiming to knock out each-other's energy and computing infrastructure for economic disruption.

    I'm sad to say that we're following the lead of many others and putting in proof-of-work proxies into place to protect ourselves against "AI" crawler bots. Yes, I hate this as much as you, but all other options are currently worse (such as locking us into specific vendors).

    We'll be rolling it out on lore.kernel.org and git.kernel.org in the next week or so.
