Wait wait wait. Other people have internal monologues even when they're not, like, very specifically trying to parse or reason through something?

If I'm not engaging in language directly (reading, writing, speaking, etc) or very consciously trying to piece together some chain of logic that needs extra attention, I don't think I ever really have an internal monologue.

And apparently that makes me the weird one? That is so unbelievably foreign to me

We were hit with a web request flood attack today

One user was slamming the server with web requests, including image upload spam to load the server with image reprocessing.

Server slowed to a crawl until I was able to identify the user and freeze their account.

Really wish I had better admin tools to help diagnose these types of attacks :(

@blackestclovers @gnitro since you're on sakurajima which ribs glitch-soc flavored Mastodon, there is a setting for "warn when posting images without alt text". Check the settings popup in the "composing" section

We've had a ton of new users in the past week+, so I'm gonna break tradition and do one of these a bit early:

1) Your instance is probably run by someone as a hobby. Be kind. Be helpful. Contribute if you can.

2) Always use alt text on images. I know, it takes time. But it's one of the things we do here to support vision-impaired users, because they deserve to browse funny cat pics too

3) Use content warnings, and not just for "offensive" content. If your post could generate strong emotions (heavy politics, common PTSD triggers, tragedy, etc) let people keep it hidden for their own mental health
