"January 6, 2021 was a turning point toward a version of Mr. Trump who is even more lawless than the one who governed the country in his first term. It heralded a culture of political unaccountability, in which people who violently attacked Congress and beat police officers escaped without lasting consequence. The politicians and pundits who had egged on the attack with their lies escaped, as well": https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/31/opinion/jan-6-anniversary-trump-politics.html#politics
Sen. Bernie Sanders provided this measure of Donald Trump's corruption.
Sen. Sanders wrote: "Donald Trump's wealth has nearly TRIPLED since he became president, driven largely by crypto ventures fueled by foreign governments. We need a president who works to improve life for the millions who can’t afford food, housing, or health care, not one who enriches himself." copy: @renewedresistance#politics#WorstPresidentEver#TrumpCrimeFamily
"A new ecosystem of liberal #media companies and brands is being born. 2025 has seen several left-of-center media operations emerging and scaling rapidly."
The day after he became Attorney General, Merrick Garland should have brought an indictment against Trump. Instead Garland waited almost two whole years. It was too late. Trump ran out the clock by getting elected president before cases reached their completions. Trump escaped justice. copy: @renewedresistance#politics#injustice
MAGA is worshiping a pedophile, as can be seen in this #PoliticalCartoon by Tim Campbell. Before Donald Trump, our nation never had a Pedophile-in-Chief.
Trump called The New York Times a “TRUE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!" His opinion of it makes me even happier to subscribe to the Times: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-new-york-times-true-enemy-of-the-people-truth-social_n_694a72f2e4b0582005c4463a?origin=home-latest-news-unit The Times was also tough on Biden because it disliked his being hidden, unavailable for interviews. Because Biden was hidden from us, people were shocked at how very poorly he did in his political-career-ending debate with Trump. While the New York Times is increasingly anti-Trump and pro-truth, the Washington Post is increasingly pro-Trump.
@gemlog Yes, it is fair to say Trump skates on very flimsy technicalities, but he has not yet violated Constitutional law. He sent soldiers into California, but he withdrew them when courts told him to do so. Why is a felon in the White House? Because he was elected, in part due to his opponent's tolerance of genocide in Gaza. You mentioned other issues that courts are deciding on. As long as Trump obeys courts, he is not violating the Constitution.
@gemlog Earlier today you sent me a long message and I said it is accurate except for a small point about Greenland. I know what was said in public today about Greenland. The best political analysis of those remarks about Greenland is from a man named Shakespeare who wrote: "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Shakespeare is right again! When Trump speaks like that he is speaking like an idiot. Trump could defy the Constitution but he has not done it yet.
@gemlog The criticism of Sen. Elizabeth Warren is that in 2028 she could be too old to be elected president here. Joe Biden proved that someone could be too old for that job, in the opinions of most voters.
@gemlog Sen. Elizabeth Warren is very good on this issue, said Abed Ayoub: "These 27 senators demonstrated the moral clarity and political courage that this critical moment demands. Their votes sent a powerful message that humanity, justice, and international law must prevail over political expediency. ADC thanks the following senators for taking one positive step toward ending the worst genocide in recent memory, once and for all:" Sen. Elizabeth Warren was shown voting with the good people.
@gemlog You're welcome! I totally oppose genocide against anyone, and in this case, genocide by Israel against Palestinians. Happily, an increasing number of my country's citizens agree with me about this. I think that the heartless position of Kamala Harris towards war crimes in Gaza was a major factor in her defeat. A report by the Democratic National Committee could confirm this but they decided to cover up that report.
Yes, you stated all of it accurately, except "annexing Greenland confirmed" is something that is both unconfirmed and something that almost certainly will never happen.
Our Constitution is a set of rules that worked very well here for hundreds of years. Trump is testing it. We will see what happens.
Jon Favreau: "The Trump administration sent dozens young men with no criminal record to be tortured and abused in a foreign prison. Bari Weiss can keep reporting, delaying, or kill the story altogether, but the basic facts have been well-documented in multiple court cases, including by Trump’s own Department of Justice and Trump-appointed judges." #coverup#politics#censorship#media
The worst possible nominee for the Democrats in 2028, @gemlog, would be Kamala Harris. Adlai Stevenson ran for president in 1952, lost, ran again in 1956 and lost again. This would also be true if loser Kamala Harris was the nominee in 2028. Learning nothing from Hillary Clinton's campaign, she also ran as the status quo candidate. Learning nothing from her own 2024 campaign, she wrote a book where she blamed everyone except for herself for her loss. And she remains all too tolerant of genocide.
Yes, @gemlog, Trump sometimes jokes about having a #ThirdTerm. He does it to try to give the impression that he is not a lame duck (meaning that he still has a political future after 2028. But he does not, due to term limits.) On #January6th 2021, false electors claimed to have votes for a Trump/Pence ticket. There is no chance of Congress voting in 2029 for a ticket that includes Trump. #politics 2/2
