storytime! how contabo deleted my whole fucking server...
for 10 minutes

i really did not get enough sleep last night... only 2h 42m of my 7h 15m goal. my sleep score was a pathetic 55 (poor). parents had to leave for their flight to cali at 6am, and i went to bed at 3am because i got rug pulled by daylight savings.

this morning i made breakfast and took nighty (my doggo) for a walk, but i literally almost collapsed because i couldn't keep my vision straight. got home, sat on the couch for like 5 minutes to recover, feeling like absolute garbage. all i wanted was to close my eyes for a bit, maybe take a nap even though i hate naps.

then it fuxcking happened.

notification: "mc server is down"

i think "okay that's fine, that's really weird, but fine. i'll deal with it later, people don't play on it that often anymore."

then BOOM - another notification, then TWO MORE in quick succession. all my services are down. my WHOLE FUCKING VPS.

i IMMEDIATELY run to my computer, turn it on, and try ssh. nothing. "No route to host". it's like the server doesn't even EXIST anymore.

i dm my admin asking if he did anything (he didn't), then go to the contabo dashboard which loads for like a minute before saying status: UNKNOWN???

the fuck you mean UNKNOWN??? IT IS YOUR SERVER!!! you're supposed to know where it is and what it's doing at all times!

i click reboot: "unable to reboot, there was an error"

i click on snapshots: "NO SNAPSHOTS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME"

at this point i'm convinced it's all gone. i got hacked or something and my whole server was fucking wiped. all that work, my whole instance, altbot, my music service, fedimc, all that data... just gone. i keep frantically clicking the status icon for literally 6 minutes straight hoping it comes back, my anxiety climbing with each click.

nothing.

i refresh the page and suddenly it says "stopped"???
i press start and it just... starts??? everything comes back to normal??? all my services start coming back online one by one.

so my question is WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT??? there are no incident reports from contabo, nothing. no emails, no status updates, no warnings. they just deleted my server for like 10 minutes and then brought it back to life later like nothing happened.

my heart rate spiked to 129 bpm when my vps died. i went from barely being able to keep my eyes open to full-on fight-or-flight mode in seconds. sleep deprivation and server panic is NOT a good combination.

im on the verge of collapse, both mental and physical... but at least my priorities are straight: vps > life

i have trauma from my previous server provider that DID delete my whole server once, so this little "incident" brought back all those horrible memories. except this time it would have been hundreds of times worse.

this is why i'm leaving contabo soon. VERY soon in fact. can't deal with this kind of stress when i'm just trying to run all this shit. i need a provider that doesn't randomly yeet my server into the void without warning.

anyway, i think i'm actually going to take that nap now.

for some reason when i write a long post i have the feeling/urge to write alt-text for it. like its a high-effort post, so i must write alt-text, but there is no image.... its just text.
