"This is not a protest rally, this is not a town square protest rally. This is an act of defiance against fascism!" Özgür Özel, leader of the CHP, largest opposition party in Turkey, at the main İstanbul anti-coup protest (banned)
I hope the CHP remembers that stance during the next elections too... (not an endorsement)
The leader of the CHP, largest opposition party in Turkey, at the main İstanbul anti-coup protest told the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK, >300000 members) to go on a general strike whenever there is a need to, to "don't let them breathe!".
Rule 35. Hospital and Safety Zones and Neutralized Zones [...] Directing an attack against a zone established to shelter the wounded, the sick and civilians from the effects of hostilities is prohibited. https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/customary-ihl/v1/rule35 Just in case anyone missed like the most basic of all war crimes. You DON'T BOMB HOSPITALS.
In parallel with the main İstanbul anti-coup protest, there is also an anti-coup demo in the Kadiköy district, with the front banner ─── We will not surrender to the coup! Either all together or none of us ───
Note that the "Council of Europe" (CoE) is different from and predates the EU and the EU's "European Council" and the EU's "Council of the European Union" even though the EU decided to e.g. use CoE's flag as its own and other sources of conflation.
Turkey's courts system order Elon Musk's eX-Twitter to block the very reputable independent press bianet's account "amid a wave of online censorship targeting hundreds of accounts covering the protests following the İstanbul mayor's arrest. [...] X has complied with more than 700 requests from Turkish authorities to restrict accounts amid the protests since İmamoğlu’s arrest." https://bianet.org/haber/turkish-court-orders-blocking-of-bianets-x-account-305802
Note that neither eX-Twitter nor any of the other social media platforms which are headquartered outside Turkey actually HAVE to comply with Turkey's court orders, as they are under the jurisdiction of wherever they are registered (e.g. California, USA) unless they CHOOSE to have servers and/or office in Turkey. If they don't have servers or office in Turkey, they are not operating in Turkey and thus it does not matter what Turkey's laws, etc would be. Turkey can then choose to block, which would lead to further protests, prestige-loss and tax-losses for the government. However, eX-Twitter and others have CHOSEN to open an office in Turkey for the specific purpose of making themself subject to Turkey's courts, to aid the dictatorship, instead of taking the fight for proper free speech. Same for all other places, like India, too of course.
