@chris I'm curious as to how all the elevators are broken at the same time.
There's a reason I trust airplanes more than elevators and it all revolves around maintenance.

People, and Americans in particular, are on edge right now. Many are looking for refuges from corporate and governmental bullshit. Is it really a good look to slam your windows shut because the new users is basically not wearing the proper color shirt?
This is why Linux on the desktop never gains traction, because most new users are apparently doing Linux wrong. Since Mastodon is the Linux of social media, I shouldn't be surprised at some of the attitude, I guess. 3/2 fin.
Look, I get it, we want Mastodon, and the Fediverse in general, to be a great place for everyone of any persuasion, and yes, bots are a pain in the ass that must be controlled. But content policing to the point of blocking out large swaths of users or making users new to the platform feel bad for not following standard practices from their very first toot is not going to make them feel warm and fuzzy about the Fediverse. 2/2
I'm seeing posts about other instances starting to just block mastodon.social because apparently they feel mastodon.social's admins aren't dealing with spam and/or bots quickly enough. Meanwhile, there's a lot of legitimate users on mastodon.social. With these broad server blocks, rampant screeching of not using CWs or alt descriptions on media, and the like, it's a small wonder half the folks I follow are feeling the need to initiate Bluesky filters. 1/2
@chris I find Bluesky less cumbersome than the algorithm powered platforms but not nearly as engaging as Mastodon, at least in my experience.
On the bright side, now that we’ve entered the Age of Idiocy, I feel much better about just ignoring speed limits and other traffic control devices
To may gay brethren that enjoy the "apps" (Grindr, Growlr, etc). They will be targeted by MAGA sympathizers. Be extra vigilant.
Mac and iOS users, are you still trusting Day One as your journaling app?
@chris Interesting. Now that I think about it, when we lived in Chicago I don't think I ever spent any time in Naperville.
Austin, Texas. We've never been. Friendly? Enjoyable? Expensive?
I'm starting to see something something about WordPress and now I'm wondering if I should be serious about dumping the platform. I have 23 years of blog entries that I don't want to lose but #WordPress seems to be heading toward sewer waters if what I'm reading is accurate.
@dansup wait, what? I don’t like that.
@chris I went with the Unity flavor and it kept crashing on launch. So then I went with the regular flavor and it did the same thing. “Reporting a problem” errors all over the place. So then I tried a minimal installation and when I tried to install Firefox the snap daemon kept locking up. Three strikes and I’m out.
My attempt at using Ubuntu Unity 24.04 LTS yesterday did not go well. I've spun the distrohopping wheel and have landed on Fedora 40. It's installing as we speak. #Linux
Well this is an interesting flight. Someone is flying a Cessna 172 from Merced, CA to Honolulu, HI
For anyone frivolously being required to go back to work in an office, I recommend you insist on an IBM Model M keyboard, especially if it's an open floor plan. It'll help control any typing fatigue / carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. If you have to be there, let everyone know you're there!
I'm having a hard time with discovery when it comes to my Pixelfed experience. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to find more awesome photos there?
Nicki Haley would have been the smart choice. But there you are.
@chris Foreflight is a full EFB but it's not cheap. You can find the same data in the NOAA Aviation Live Sky Weather app
@chris I stick to the local aviation forecasts, but lately even they've been a bit off as well. I've never trusted Apple's weather app. Maybe Carrot?
