“You’re ignoring simple biology!” they scream, while ignoring the actual biologists.

The German foreign office has issued a travel warning for trans and nonbinary people going to the USA.

It's a sad day for this British-German enby. I have close friends in the US. My publisher is based there. My books are housed in dozens of US libraries and have been taught in US colleges.

And I'm no longer welcome.

When I was 16 I was at a career fair. Being interested in journalism, I spoke with a local reporter.

He said journalists at his paper were liberal, but write with a right-wing slant to appeal to their readers. It immediately put me off that career.

I still think about that moment. Especially now.

The block function on Mastodon is absolutely terrible.

If you block someone, their comments will stay on your posts – meaning if someone makes a bigoted, hateful comment, your followers will all see it.

If someone else blocks you, their comments will also stay on your posts – meaning they can drive-by insult you, and there's no way for you to remove it.

Who thought up that system?

When you post "AI"-generated content, you're making a statement, whether you intend to or not.

You're telling us that you don't care about artists, original work, or even the very planet we live on.

Ultimately, this is the message you're sharing with the world:

"Nothing important matters to me."

Coming out as trans takes an incredible amount of courage and integrity. It means being true to yourself despite facing ignorance, bigotry, and even the rejection of loved ones.

We should be proud of every single trans person. And we need to grieve all those we've lost.
