Working with this Hetzner remote KVM feels like I've misplaced my glasses, I don't think I've ever seen such a blurry, messy VGA signal in person :floofWoozy:

Thought I'd do a quick CPU swap for an Ivy Bridge CPU in my good ol' ThinkPad T420, but it turns out the BIOS doesn't support them natively. So a quick little side project turned into a full-blown Coreboot flash and my T420 into a bare motherboard with a chip clip hanging off of it :floofWoozy:

Awww yisss, she boots, new CPU and BIOS and all! Tried SeaBIOS as primary payload first and that worked totally fine, but being able to make use of SecureBoot is probably a bit more useful, so EDK2 it is!

@Jain @hannah It really depended (depends?) on the launcher, some allowed it, others didn't!

@CursedSilicon @icedquinn PowerShell is actually incredibly powerful especially but not only because you can basically script around objects from the full, fat .NET framework. If only it's syntax waan't so... Windowsy

@Suiseiseki @fristi Seems like the latest ThinkPads officially supported are Core 2 Duo with Intel GMA GPU era laptops, T60, X200, T400 etc. (https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuboot/web/docs/hardware/)

Out of curiosity, do you know if there is a fork/version/repo of it that supports less ancient ThinkPads? :neocat_think:

@16af93 @pesekcuy The hardware part was pretty easy, cutting some metal and plastic tabs, the annoying part can be the EC firmware flash (required to map the keys to their proper scancodes) with custom splash screens or the 1vyrain BIOS.

@Jain Hahaha, I can say with certainty that thatis nowhere near enough. We had 8 Unifi AP-U7 Pros in two big tents set up even with manual channel selections and best possible spacing for the least overlaps and even with those and at best ~75 concurrent guests, you absolutely noticed slow downs, drop outs and latency spikes. The air is simply a limited medium! Oh, and almost no device was connected to WiFi 7 over a three day period, a handful maybe, mostly modern iPhones...
