Andrew T.๐ณ๏ธโ๐This might be one of the more chilling things I've seen the administration put out. There are the obvious counterproductive harms this will cause by ending federal funding for housing first initiatives, and committing homeless folks to institutions. Their moralizing on addiction and bait for their base about homeless sex predators is dumb.
But also, over and over it specifically talks about how it applies to anyone who has a mental illness and is a harm to themselves OR homeless.
Given this administrations bent, and any understanding of history, it scares me beyond words. It's a very small step to define queer people as mentally ill and/or sex predators. That's long been the language used by evangelicals to describe queer folks. Gay men are predators and trans people are self-mutilating in their view. The speed with which they could turn this into a witch hunt for anyone they dislike, and bypass criminal courts in favor of just throwing people into institutions is terrifying.
