Our community really showed up, and a handful of you went *even further*, spontaneously organizing a matching campaign! The campaign added fuel to the energized moment and set a tangible goal so that others could be a part of it. Over just a few days, they were able to raise the full matched amount, raising in total the amazing sum of $34K. That’s what community is all about.
Please join us in sending a HUGE thank you to @glyph, @amethyst, @Yhg1s, @petrillic, and @offby1, the individuals behind the community-run matching campaign.
You have the PSF’s deep gratitude for enabling, catalyzing, and most impressively, inspiring the #Python community to come together 💝💝💝
Here we are again: stunned, floored, full of hope, because of you–each of you wonderful humans in the #Python community. Since we shared the news about our withdrawal from the NSF grant opportunity two weeks ago, we have received over $160,000 in donations across nearly 2000 donors, which includes 313 new Members–WOW!
Now for some ✨fun✨ updates! Since we posted last Monday about our withdrawal from the NSF grant opportunity, we have received $134K+ in donations across 1700+ donors, which includes 270 new Supporting Members 🤯
📣 First things first– we heard you loud and clear: Stripe has been added to our donation and membership sign up pages! Thank you for persisting through our previously limited payment options, and we hope the new Stripe checkout will make donating an easier experience 🙏
Thanks to our partners Arm, GitHub, and AWS, the PSF migrated #Python’s infrastructure to Arm-based systems; achieving zero downtime, lower costs, and a greener footprint. Results like this show the impact of corporate collaboration with the #Python community 💝🐍 https://www.arm.com/company/success-library/python-software-foundation
In the past day we raised $65K+ USD and are thrilled to welcome 137 new Supporting Members! We truly hope you continue to follow us and share this story and more as we kick off our annual fundraiser in November. Thinking about becoming a PSF member? While in some ways the decision was tough, knowing the #Python community would have our backs made it easier. We want to thank you deeply for the words of support across many platforms- but also your actions.
Hearts at the PSF are full today from the responses about the recent grant turn down news we shared. All of your kind words of support & solidarity, as well as your donations & new memberships, mean the world to us. We're so grateful to be in community with each of you 💛 🐍 💙
Donations and sponsorships will help us fill the gap, so we can continue supporting the Python ecosystem and living our values. Please read our statement, share it with your networks, and support us if you can. https://www.python.org/sponsors/application/ https://psfmember.org/civicrm/contribute/transact/?reset=1&id=2
The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement, as facilitating “the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers” is written directly into our mission and core to our values, so we withdrew our application. In the end, it wasn’t a hard decision for the PSF to put our community and our values first, but it does mean we lost out on this large funding source.
The PSF applied for a $1.5M grant from the US National Science Foundation (NSF) to make innovative improvements to packaging security—and we were recommended for funding! But as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so.
TLDR; The PSF has made the decision to put our community and our shared diversity, equity, and inclusion values ahead of seeking $1.5M in new revenue. Please read and share. https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-funding-statement.html

We understand traveling to the US is complex currently, and we encourage each person to make their own decision based on their personal risk assessment and travel conditions. https://us.pycon.org/2025/attend/international-travel/
