@cwebber most of these are right but Paul is not a savior to the fremen, he is presented as a ruinous manipulator. This is often cited as a defense of the novel but it’s not a good one, because he’s still presented as tragically noble and obviously his perspective is centered and his superiority to the indigenous people is assumed, so it has a lot in common with white savior narratives. But “savior” does miss the mark.

My New Year’s resolution is to go the whole year without obtaining any more nuclear weapons. I just don’t need any more than what I currently have.

I forgot this show has gamer grandma nudity

This show is really trashy, in a horny harem anime way, but it also has a really well done treacly earnest sentimentality to it, and I just think it’s a winning combo. Haters of this show often say it has one of the worst protagonists they’ve ever seen but I can’t help but like the awful loser

There’s an extremely puzzling friendship (?) between the protagonist’s weirdly emotionally mature 20 year old friend and the protgaonist’s gamer grandma. The show occasionally references it but from what I’ve seen has yet to fully elaborate on the nature of their relationship. It’s so mysterious

If you watch enough of this show the word “girlfriend” stops feeling like a real word

But it’s a driving part of the show’s plot. A lot of drama is driven by the protagonist wanting to maintain the fiction he has a girlfriend to placate his gamer grandma, and in order to do that he has to make sure this one friend doesn’t find out because, we are told, this friend is so tight with his grandma that he’s sure to tell her the truth

This guy only has four girlfriends in his party, and the type spread is garbage. Bro has nothing against Fairy type girlfriends, he needs a Steel type girlfriend or something

You know how in Pokémon nobody is interested in anything but Pokémon? Everyone’s jobs, hobbies, social relationships, personal aspirations, aesthetic sense, and ethical philosophy seems to be formed with reference to the totalizing concept “Pokémon”? And you know how sometimes you look at Mr. Mime and it makes you question if the term “Pokémon” has any stable referent? That what the word “girlfriend” is for this show.

I probably over-praise this show because of how universally reviled it seems to be among English speaking anime fans, but tbh the protagonists’s anxious thought spirals and over-interpretation of cues from other people are extremely well portrayed and relatable to me 🤷

More shows should have third seasons where they suddenly abandon their original premise and just have the characters decide to run a kickstarter campaign together
