"Focus on building a new unifying mythology to replace white supremacy. Tell stories about heroes and their struggle against enemies. Define, reinforce and defend a clear set of values. Most of all, Democrats must shed the impression that they’re cowardly, lost, ashamed of their own allies and unsure what they believe in. And for the sake of all that’s holy, fight."
More: "Stop chasing Republican narratives. Stop apologizing for being sensible, intelligent and humane. Stop compromising with Nazis. Stop protecting a failing system. Democrats love to mention that in the last 8 Presidential Elections, Republicans have only won the popular vote once. What they fail to see is that Democrats only win now after Republican leadership creates a catastrophe. That dynamic has to end."
"Our current phony freakout over the #transgendered is the same play Republicans have run for decades, with different targets. Single out someone who is an “other” under a #whitesupremacist mythology. Tell a story about the danger they collectively pose, or the unearned privileges they’ve stolen. Bully Democrats into betraying them. Then count the electoral benefits of Democrats’ weakened coalition while still slandering them by association." Read the rest here:
"The controversy stirring in Democratic circles over #transgenderrights is a classic framing trap. Republicans have manufactured this “issue.” Democrats are about to fall for it, again.
We’re going to hear a lot of garbage-takes about the reasons people supported Donald Trump. Inflation, #immigration,#transrights and so on. They’re all trash.
The Democratic brain trust is suggesting they can win by abandoning trans people. Not only will this fail, it will legitimize Republican cruelty."
Morning reading: "Republicans are pressuring Democrats to further weaken their coalition by betraying #transpeople. And they’re falling for it. We’ve seen this movie before. When pressured in recent years, #Democrats have betrayed #immigrants, DACA kids, #Muslims, those with student loan debt, and anyone else #Republicans targeted for #bullying, hoping this time it would pay off. It always fails. It’s a dumb, cowardly response to a familiar tactic."
@left_adjoint Back in the pre-Internet days, you actually had to meet the artist or writer whose work you loved in person to find out just what a jerk they were. In that respect, yay old days.
