Was there ever a more piteous meow than Meow Meow hunched beside an empty bowl mere metres away from a different, not empty bowl

I used to think it was hyperbole when people ran thinkpieces about how misinformation is fracturing our sense of a shared / collective reality, but now I see it was understatement.

I had interacted with people before in my life, whose paradigms were upside-down relative to mine, for all sorts of reasons… but now it feels like there is no fringe, there is no centre, there is just a rapidly melting flotilla of icebergs, all adrift.

@Njord I would sooner break the law to keep my mask on. I don't think there's a single thing anyone could say to me to make me take it off. I'm having trouble imagining a situation where a) I couldn't just leave, and b) keeping my mask on could possibly represent a greater physical risk to me than catching covid would. Because it would need to be a dire physical threat, not a social one, that would make me remove it.

On this Yom HaShoa (Holocaust Memorial Day), all I would ask of my non-Jewish followers is to type "Holocaust inversion" into your search engine of choice, learn whatever you'd like to learn, and then notice how often this rhetoric comes up on the Fediverse.
