Can we please establish the social norm not to point our phone's cameras at each other's faces in public, on trains, busses, and so on? Just tilting the phone a few degrees would be enough to stop creeping others out.

P.S.: Yes, I know. Meta's spyglasses unfortunately exist.

Austria in political turmoil an likely on its way to a far-right prime minister. Apparently the old economy got the upper hand within the conservative party.
Expect deregulation of the economy. Expect euroscepticism. Expect important issues like privacy to be labeled as impediment to conservative and false notions of "progress" and "innovation". In short: expect huge steps backwards.

More than six years into the General Data Protection Regulation, I think it’s safe to assume that opt-out shenanigans are intentional infringements.

Yes, I’m looking at you Apple. Their privacy policy on Enhanced Visual Search may not look all too bad at a first glance (I need to dig deeper though). But why not do it right and make it opt-in? They should know better given that they build a whole lot of their marketing around privacy.

If you get them used to surveillance at an early age, they won’t protest it when they’re older. Although your intentions may be good, the consequences won’t be!

I do get your point, but I disagree.

The issue as I see it is that if children are subjected to surveillance early on, the experience becomes normalised. Even worse: Since the parents are doing the surveillance, it might become reframed as some expression of care or affection. I consider that to be dangerous, because once children that are brought up in such a way become adults, it’s much easier for governments or corporations to exploit that.

So Meta is claiming a legitimate interest in feeding their users‘ content into their LLM?
If I still had a Meta account I‘d demand their assessment in which they‘d have to show that their interest outweighs the rights of their users. I’d love to see how much empty legalese they are able to produce. 🤔
It couldn’t be any more obvious that Meta doesn’t care about their users‘ privacy. Companies, governments, and politicians should stop supporting them!

Another data broker is telling me that they have a „legitimate interest“ in scraping and selling my data because they need to for their business. 🙄 That is not enough.
When someone claims legitimate interest, they have to show that your rights and freedoms do not outweigh their interests. „We want to because money!“ does not quite do that!

Time to prepare my next complaint.
