I personally think carbon footprint calculators can be an interesting project for wealthier people to do.

Footorints scale with wealth and its mostly the people flying regularly, driving large vehicles, or buying large hard to heat or cool buildings who are causing most of the pollution and are in the position to alter their lifestyle to be less polluting.

Also posibley the most effective policy to reduce emissions might be to bring back those 70 to 90% tax rates on the richest

I wasnt sure what counts as non household activity but im pretty sure it includes things like militaries & policing.

There reason I don't like letting individuals off the hook, is all my coworkers swapping their frequent flyer tips and all those community meetings with people blocking denser housing, bike lanes or bus lanes.

Also as an american I have some troubles thinking regulations will stick given how often anti government extreamsits keep getting in power over here.

@deivudesu I'm not sure obsessing is all that useful. Calculating it once in a while to get a sense of general trends is probably all most people need.

Carbon calculating are more useful in terms of planning though. Like which is more useful, banning plastic straws or private jets?

And so far the only thing that has slowed emissions was the couple of months with covid travel restrictions.

And the oil aligned conservatives are doing everything in their power to make sure those restrictive never happen again.

It's a website provided by the US government on how to improve your chances of not dying or being seriously injured during a variety disasters. It's not perfect, and includes some unlikely disasters the US government likes people being worried about.

But on the common stuff like flooding and power outages it's a good reference.

I was thinking about it as a significant storm is currently impacting California.
