@icedquinn @kaia @piggo I imagine they wanted the aluminium at the back to be in contact with the backlight at the rear of the display for thermal reasons, as it has two stacked IPS panels to get the required contrast ratio for XDR and as such has an extremely bright backlight to shine through both of them and still achieve 1500nits of brightness.
