hey. so. our instance is known for promoting mutual aid posts. we're proud of that and think it's wonderful how fedi can be so supportive of each other.

however.

please do not tag a bunch of us specifically, either in identical posts or one big post, asking for us to promote your mutual aid post. it puts us in the very unpleasant position of having to try to figure out whether or not youre a spambot, when we would really prefer to stick to our values of helping and implicitly trusting those in need.

i dread the eventual day we're wrong about someone in this way and end up suspending them when they truly need help. we will always happily boost from the #MutualAid tag; reaching out individually pretty much guarantees no response. and other instances will likely err on the side of spambot without hesitation, cutting you off from help.

basically, we want to help you as much as we can. we assume good faith from all of you. but when you mimic a spambot, youll be mistaken for a spambot and ignored.

"legal name" is such a poorly defined concept in the US. what i got today was a judge's order for other agencies to update their record of my name. i have to tell several different parts of the government about the name change myself. i have to personally tell social security, the county i was born in, the dmv, and the passport fascists if i want any of those places to consider my name changed. theres no proper centralizing of it and no communication between departments.

so im rachael "legally", but that doesnt mean shit if i dont tell anyone. lmao

if you have a problem with mutual aid i will simply suspend you and likely your instance too. then you dont have to see poor people anymore

to be entirely honest, the goal should have been around $2300, i just got too nervous to ask for so much... im trying to figure it out. but youre all absolutely amazing.

im so sorry, i hate doing this, but i have to admit i lowballed my goal by quite a bit out of guilt of asking too much... i appreciate how much you all have given, i really truly do, but watching my mutual aid post get so quickly met while so many others dont, makes me feel guilty. so i didnt want to admit the actual need, trying to push some of that help elsewhere.

mental illness sucks, poverty sucks, disability sucks, societal institutions suck. but we all know we are in this together and thats what keeps us going. what makes life possible.

transphobia is something that hurts me deeply. but i say without hesitation that even more than transphobia, it's mental illness that is the greatedst source of hardship in my life. if my brain worked better, i could navigate the sea of capitalism and colonialism and hate much more fluently and meet more of the demands placed on me. even though those pressures are themselves evil oppression, by meeting them i would be less hurt and be able to contribute more to my community and do more anticapitalist work and live a more fulfilling life.

what gets me through it is the community around me. and i do my best to give back more than i get. helping with the instances, organizing and hosting fun events, spreading mutual aid posts, and just doing my best to be a friend, all of it i love and am so glad im able to do because of all of your effort and support and understanding and presence.

thank you, all of you, not just my closest friends or members of our instances and discords, but every voice in this community for doing your part to help us all thrive together. even if you think you just are simply here and dont contribute, you do. being part of a community and engaging in good faith is one of the most helpful things anyone can offer.

i love fedi so much, and i hope i can continue to contribute for a long, long time.

since neither of us can work, i need to ask for help with rent, so that i can continue the job search and escape to seattle. $1600 should cover that plus the necessary utilities to keep the apartment warm this winter.

dot lol has recently hit 200 users!! and more than half of them active!

this is so cool. im so happy to be part of something like this, fostering community and connection in an anarchist space, something many of us desperately needed. im so much happier and more confident because of my time here and im excited for the long haul :cyber_heart_purple:

thank you to our wonderful users for being so kind and supportive of each other and to me as well, this is an incredibly easy to moderate instance compared to a lot of the horror stories i hear. and it's because you all rock. :heart_cyber:

we've also started more activity nights, including watching movies together under the name SyndicateCinema. these nights are always so fun, and doing them on more days of the week allows more participation for those with different schedules. anyone on any instance (or not on fedi at all) is welcome! :heart_cyber_pink:

we've had some issues with infrastructure for our other instances, dot gay and dot ???, but we expect to have it all sorted in the first half of february. thank you for being patient, and for sticking with dot gay through this mild instability. if anyone wants a dot gay account, for the Time Being just dm me or vanta and we'll create your account manually.
