While I'm ironing out issues with the podcast pumping through to Patreon automatically, don't forget that you can catch the latest episode right here! https://play.acast.com/s/663368a01a158500127172f1
Latest podcast episode is out there, but if you're relying on Patreon, I'm afraid there's been a glitch pulling the podcast from my new provider, Acast, into Patreon (asked both to help with fixing it), so apologies for the delay -- but it should be available everywhere else! The Working Week No.25, covering Kenny Omega working Cornette, MJF likely working everyone, AEW in desperate times, who's "part of the show" at WWE (and that, um, interesting Backlash crowd), Saudi Arabia, and much more! Catch it now "wherever you get your podcasts"!
The women of WWE - the wrestlers and even referees - look absolutely ridiculous wearing full-on bodysuits specially for the Saudi Arabia show, which is an absolute disgrace and shouldn't be happening. They can't expose their legs or even arms like the men do, and must be so badly overheated while wrestling (Glenn Jacobs couldn't even keep kayfabe as "scarred" character Kane for long he was so warm in the bodysuit, that they tried to retcon Kane just so he could shed material in his costume). WWE's PR spin on the "progress" of women now being "graciously" permitted to actually wrestle in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia cannot hide the deeply regressive politics of it all. Let the women be themselves rather than having to adhere to sexist dress codes or don't bother at all.
@sharan I - and I'm sure so many others - relate to what you have said. I'm currently working on an article about AEW's promising start and where it went wrong. It'll be up on the Patreon, for free, soon.
As promised, I'm going to aim to produce shorter, more regular editions of The Working Week (to literally cover the week in wrestling) on The Left Fist podcast. I've been switching from Spreaker to Acast, which works directly with Patreon, so here's hoping for a smoother output for subscribers (with a bit of audio leveling and transcription thrown in too).
I'm also planning to add podcast editions of Industrial Dispute (on the calls to "fight forever" in a world of tiger drivers and medical staff lacking independence), as well as Past Practice (moving on to the WWF in 1991; you can catch the episode on 1990 in the archives!) And more interviews are being planned!
There'll be articles too! One I'm writing now is a follow-up to the piece about "picking sides" in the wrestling "war," now suggesting we can no longer do that (if indeed we ever could). Another looks at the sickly-sweet production that is WWE. And seeing as the article on Russians in wrestling was so popular (where it turned out several of them were from...Minnesota), I'll take a look at how so many of my favourite wrestlers (and yours!) were indeed from the state of Minnesota.
Again, be sure to subscribe if you're not already.
