There's a really concerning thing I've been seeing recently, that the escalation in transphobic and anti-disabled rhetoric on fedi is somehow justified because "everybody's stressed out about Trump".

This is bullshit, and if you see this bullshit you should call it out.

Being stressed out about the fascist president doesn't justify using the fascist president's rhetoric to punch down.

Attacking trans and disabled people supports Trump.

Genuinely, if this wasn't coming from one of the most harmfully transphobic people on fedi, in defence of literal eugenics, I would be pretty supportive of what Ro was saying here.

Anyways, let's go through the thread.

First, and most importantly, we're not talking about "fedi's performative political line".

This thread is about somebody who is:

- Repeatedly using slurs, to attack people with learning disabilities.

- Making up conspiracy theories blaming people with learning disabilities for facism.

- Calling for people with learning disabilities to be banned from fedi.

Ro doesn't believe trans people are real.

He doesn't believe transphobia is real.

He doesn't believe trans people have history or community equivalent with other groups.

He doesn't believe that being trans is an essential part of many trans people's identities and existence in the world as being Black is to his life and identity.

He doesn't understand that Black people and trans people both experience fairly unique hypervisibility - especially right now.

That's what's wrong with Ro.

When I read a post like this, from, Ro, I do a simple find and replace.

Replace "Black" with "Black and trans".

Replace "white with "white and cis".

Replace "racism" with "racism and transphobia".

And I think that lets your read the post from an emotional space that's as empathetic to Ro as is possible.

This is actually a pretty good summary of Hot Allostatic Load.

That is sooooooooooo much worse than Eris saying "based" or Mint calling Ro out for his racism and transphobia or whatever else.

But let's imagine a world where Ericka apologized and deleted the posts.

Ro posts a lot about wanting to leave the US.

I think if he actually recognized trans people as a real people facing real genocide, he would understand the problem with the US government decision (on day one) to invalidate trans people's passports.

I think Ro would understand the problem if the US government decided to systematically invalidate Black people's passports.

We'd all agree that was a Very. Bad Sign.

And she's using people calling her out for her transphobia and ableist slurs as justification to target queer communities on #Fediblock.

I don't get how anybody can see what @ErickaSimone is doing here, and not think that the purpose of Fediblock is to enable this sort of hatred and abuse against (primarily) trans people on fedi.

This back and forth is kind of wild.

In defending her use of anti-disabled slurs, Ericka is not only using well known anti-queer dog whistles, but is also... blaming queer people for Trump?

Queer people (along with Black people) opposed Trump more strongly than any other demographic groups.

Queer people are the demographic group most explicitly targetted by Trump.

This is just wildly obvious, and intentional queerphobia.

This is either about me or about Eva, but the answer is the same in either case.

Ericka has been throwing out slurs and reiterating her hatred of disabled people for the last few days.

Neither myself nor Eva had tagged Fediblock until /after/ Ericka has launched defederation campaigns against multiple queer communities.

Ro is just straight up lying about myself and Eva here, and it is very evident with his long history of transphobia. #fediblockmeta

Based on the timing, I am assuming that Ro is going after Eva, and not me.

That makes a lot of sense, because Eva is more visibly trans than me (I am an otter in a witch's hat) and Ro's abuse is always strongest against queer people of colour who disagree with him.

We're not talking about "a word [we] don't like or feel is inappropriate."

We are talking about repeated, intentional slurs and conspiracy theories targeting the most vulnerable people in our communities.

And the fact that Ro, the person behind TheBadSpace is going out of his way to defend, minimize, and lie about this abuse is absolutely disgusting.

I can not think of a single case where me and Eva have ever agreed on the meta.

But I am confident that neither myself nor Eva would have made Fediblock posts if, after being educated about the r-slur, Ericka has stopped.

This has been a days-long harassment campaign against disabled people, not an accident or a misunderstanding about use of language.

Are any of the commercial fedi experiments still alive?

Moth.social's closing down.

Mozilla.social is gone.

Queer communities decide on their own terms who gets access to their spaces, with tools that they control.

That is why fedi is safer for queer communities than any other social media.

Centralized blocklists take that control out of the hands of communities, and hand it over to (in this case) somebody who openly fantasizes about murdering queer people with baseball bats.
