A prolonged period of heavy rain brought widespread flooding to Kentucky during the weekend of February 15th and 16th 2025. Widespread rainfall totals ranging from 2 to 6+ inches occurred, with the highest amounts found from southwest to central portions of the state. The majority of this rain fell from Friday night, February 14th through Saturday, February 15th. At least a dozen river sites had preliminary crests within the top 5 of recorded crests.

Rescue efforts are ongoing for the second day Tuesday as water levels continued to rise on some waterways in Kentucky and other portions of the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic flooded by a deadly coast-to-coast winter storm.

I worked as a framing carpenter decades ago.
I built my own house in the mid-2000's because I know how poorly designed and built homes in Canada are.
So I have a collegial respect for the reasons @EsTresidder did a deep #Passivhaus energy retrofit of his home that he discusses in the latest @TransitionShow show episode.
It is a lot of work but building a home that is comfortable and properly ventilated requires diligent effort.

I’ve heard people in Iowa agriculture explain away the ‘all white’ thing by saying, well, farming is a generational business (true) and since almost all the early settlers were white (also true), it follows that subsequent generations would also be white. Ok, but why were the early Iowa settlers all white, when 17% of the U.S. was non-white about the time Native American people were being displaced by settlers?

That’s still forgetting one more crucial factor. A solar panel sold by Longi in 2024 will be generating electricity for decades. Most carry 25-year warranties. Oil and gas sold this year, however, will almost all be used up in a matter of months. If you look at the long-term flow of energy into the global economy that’s crystallized with each solar cell produced, it’s many times what’s being provided by Big Oil:
