@JessTheUnstill This is even accounted for in capitalism itself, what they call rent-seeking behavior, which is harmful to the economy as it stifles the things capitalism claims to champion, like innovation and such. Economists the world around are explicitly against this type of thing, like rent, that collects and concentrates value without adding anything.
It's the most obvious form of purest capitalism there is, mercantilism even. Concentrate, consolidate, own more, control the whole market and then you won't have to put in any effort or better people's lives or do anything at all. Just control the market. Same as Walmart with small towns, same as Amazon, same as Uber or those delivery apps. Be first, be the biggest. Drive wages down. Sell the cheapest, least quality slop and be the only option.
