Are there mainstream languages whose floating points are not implemented with IEEE 754, so 0.1 + 0.2 actually does equal 0.3? Because it seems uninformed to make fun of JavaScript for that if other languages follow the floating point standard with the same limitations.

@rysiek @btr in one sense it's nice to see numeric proof that he's a historically poor businessperson
On the other hand it's discouraging that you can be that poor of a businessperson and still be given $13 billion

LLMs can't "know" things.
We know this, and yet we still act like they usually do.
So which of us is really "hallucinating"?

If a good #iOS interface is very unstable and decays into a worse interface almost immediately, is that the HIGs boson?

Thinking of licensing my side project as AGPLv3 just to make sure that, in case it gets any interest, that there is no option for a tech giant to make a fortune off a forked version of it without releasing the source.
Anyone have opinions about the AGPLv3 to share, without knowing much context about my project? It has a component that runs on the server, and I am not looking to turn it into a business (but maybe take donations for hosting costs).

Hosting a tiny instance on @mastohost continues to be an absolutely effort-free experience. I totally recommend them if you want your own instance but don't want to do server administration.

Turns out my home inspector failed to check for carbon monoxide alarms and we had *none* in our house. Now installed and tested. Thought of it thanks to this thread; might have saved our lives. Really recommend you read it, especially if you aren't 100% sure you have a working CO alarm right now. https://mstdn.ca/@wheatnoil/109575644913385085
