This article describes the disgusting conduct of individuals seeking to influence Supreme Court justices and highlights just how badly the court needs a code of ethics.
“Supreme Court justices mostly police themselves, which Mr. Schenck said he exploited. While they are subject to the same law on recusals as other federal judges, they are not bound by the ethics code that applies to the rest.”
I spent my career quietly working on government ethics issues behind the scenes, trying to stay out of the news. That changed when a corrupt president took office and refused to divest his conflicting financial interests while I was director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
Now I'm with the Project On Government Oversight, @pogowatchdog, fighting for democracy and accountable, ethical government.
I've left Twitter (@waltshaub) and am loving Mastodon.
Mastodon is growing quickly, so there are bound to be glitches and growing pains. But I am loving the calmer atmosphere here and think it's worth being patient. Some folks we followed on Twitter won't like this mellow experience, and that's ok. It's not for everyone. But, if it's for you, we can be calm here together. And I'm grateful to get to share this space with you.
