Yes and its a very civilised way of dealing with alcohol. Teach it as a condiment. That's how I was brought up.
We holidayed (vacationed) in Europe a lot when I was a child

You can still give children a small wine while dining at home here.
It's old law certainly and most people aren't aware of it.
