If anyone fancies bagging themselves $80 off for #blackfriday on my https://terminal.training course, and seeing videos of "slim Rem" (as opposed to "cake Rem" which exists today), then you can use the code "SUBSCRIBER" on checkout of the master course (no subscription required!)
My boy wants to get into music making. No specifically how to plan an instrument, but build a track, understanding adding beats, bass, lead, etc - using midi and software.
Any beginner guides you would recommend? (I love music, but we Sharp's aren't entirely musically minded!)
@aral there's a good number of riddle-like bits in there, but - when you say "ones" - any chance of ellaborating? (I'm guessing you count yourself in that list, but curious who else you're including…)
This is bit of a stretch ask, and, possibly very vague, but - I've been trying (and struggling) to find potential speakers for #ffconf that can talk on the subject of "how to think critically / being sceptical".
Ideally wanting UK based, but can stretch to Europe.
Any suggestions?
At some point I'm going to need a thermal camera because the chips on the boards I'm messing around with are getting very hot and the way I keep finding out is by randomly burning my fingers on them.
Observation: I absolutely wouldn't build a long term project using Nextjs without having full time development resource able to perpetually support the project.
Why? The API surface changes way too much and often.
A project like JS Bin, 16 years old, would have required constant support ALL of the time to keep it running.
Instead, it used express, which is a relatively "basic" pattern, but the complexity hasn't changed.
I enjoy Next for quick and dirty, but decade+… I don't think so.
Wrote and released this update to the "fix Spotify" aka: eject the shows and other shit from my music player: https://remysharp.com/2024/02/02/removing-episodes-audiobooks-and-more-from-spotify
Also talks about ideas for future proofing and mobile support (one day).
My personal projects:
"Oh, I built that with Next. That's nice…[a hour or so later], ah better, now with 11ty".
I used Next to generate static sites, but the underlying tech "disrupts" so often that it's borked in 12 months.
11ty, even if I stick on "old" 11ty, it's stable. It'll rebuild.
I do love me a static site (usually cheaper too!)
If anyone is looking for a Christmas present for an (oldie) loved one, or perhaps for yourself (something I tend to do these last few years) - I've got 5 or so Gameboys looking for homes - https://retrobyrem.uk/tag/ips/ (prefers UK buyers) (I do also have two GBAs, but just "enquire" to get photos and price)
This is mine (pic) 😍
