Dear fediverse friends,

I'm having problems migrating from qoto.org to @hesgen, owing to a fault that prevents migration of followers to a new instance.

If you follow me here, and haven't already done so, please follow @hesgen manually. At the time of writing, around 70 of you have done this, for which many thanks.

If you don't follow me here, g'wan, you know you want to! Not here, but at @hesgen.

I'm getting the impression that, on a technical level, Mastodon is all a bit sealing wax and string.

Update: 17 March...

Still not resolved. Sysadmin says he'll look at the problem in the coming week. Around 10% of followers have manually re-followed at @hesgen.

Can anyone see this who's not on qoto.org?

I lost access to my Mastodon instance last Friday, and while the site is finally back up, it still seems broken.

There was no sticky warning on the app of the host migration or updates, so I've no clue what's going on.

It looks like I shall have to move instances again, even though the move from mstdn.media (shut down with no reason given) to qoto.org lost me 80 followers (fediblocking?).

I've set up an account on federated.press, which is specifically for journalists, and will set about migrating followers and followed lists.

Nearly four days of downtime on this mastodon instance, qoto.org, and it's still broken. There was no sticky warning on the app of the host migration or updates, so I've no clue what's going on.

Is this normal for Mastodon, at least on the non-corporate instances? If so, I don't see the platform having a future. Site owners don't owe us anything, but for users, it's not worth the hassle. Social media can not function like this.

Maybe I should call it quits and set about engaging properly with Bluesky.

Please don't advise me to create my own instance. I have a life and try to live some of it away from a screen.

I awake up to learn that COP28 has ended in failure, with the petrostate presidency railroading through an ‘agreement’ which ignores the objections of island states that will sink beneath the waves due to global warming. No consensus, and nothing whatsoever to celebrate.

Utterly shameful.
